Congratulations to the Theater Company students who took part in theater festivals and competitions at the end of January.
Senior Benjamin Heath was selected as one of ten students to move forward to the state final round of the Boston Shakespeare Competition on February 7 based on his performances in the semi-final round at Babson College on January 30 of a selection from "Titus Andronicus" and of "Sonnet 74".
Also on January 30 students in Weston High School's Acting III class participated in the non-competitive Emerson College Theater Festival for the first time, one of ten schools from eastern Massachusetts. The students presented the one-act play "Surprise" by Mark Harvey Levine. The Emerson Festival is not a competition, but individual awards are presented at the end of the day. The show's director, senior Cailin McCormack, was presented an award for Excellence in Direction at the festival and juniors Peter Birren and Laurel Kulow were presented awards for Excellence in Acting.
The students who attended also participated in workshops in improvisation, character acting, swing dancing and sound design, taught by Emerson faculty and graduate students.
