Dear Field School Community,
This letter is to publicly acknowledge and thank Mr. Matt Lucey for his fifteen years of service to the Weston Public Schools, the past ten as Field School Principal, and to share with you next steps as we prepare for Matt’s departure at the end of June. After much careful thought and deliberation, I have decided to conduct a search for a one-year interim principal for Field School. The position will be posted as a single-year opening.
My reasoning for this is that we want the best possible instructional leader for the position of Field School Principal. As I begin my role as Superintendent of Schools, it is critical that I spend time getting to know the schools, the system and the community from a wider lens than I had previously as the Director of Student Services. To that end, I have begun my entry plan. It is my intent to take the findings of that process to help inform my decisions moving forward, one of the most important of which will be to fill the position of principal of the Field School.
In addition, as a district we are a little late in posting for such a pivotal school leadership position. This year there were a particularly high number of elementary principal positions open for the 2017-2018 school year that have been filled in the last few months, and quite a few of the districts are in close proximity to us. It is my preference to be deliberate and methodical in finding a long term, dedicated and highly competent school leader by opening a full principal search in December of next school year.
In the coming weeks, there will be a committee formed to assist in interviewing and finding the highest quality interim principal for Field School. Thank you for your commitment to the process and to the Weston Public Schools.
Dr. Marguerite (Midge) Connolly
