Important Information about Concussions

Given the potential serious consequences that can befall students who experience concussions, the Weston Public Schools urges all parents to educate themselves about the dangers.

Parents of student athletes are now required by Massachusetts law
to participate in an on line course about the signs and symptoms of a concussion.
This course (which is indicated for coaches) provides valuable information on head injury prevention and control.

All individuals serving as Weston Public Schools’ coaches this fall have participated in a mandatory course on this topic. Faculty and staff are also being trained. If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse or the Director of Athletics, Mike McGrath.

The Weston Middle School Athletic program offers numerous interscholastic teams throughout the school year.  The Fall Season typically begins a few days after the opening of school and ends in late October or early November.  The Winter Season begins either the first or second week of December and ends in mid February.  The Spring Season begins the first week of April and ends the first week of June.

The current teams offered during the Fall Season are Boys and Girls Soccer (A and B Teams), Girls Field Hockey (A and B Teams) and Boys Football (A and B Teams).

Boys and Girls Basketball (A and B Teams) are offered during the Winter Season.

Spring teams are Softball (A and B Teams), Baseball (A and B Teams), Track and Tennis.

WMS tries to avoid “cuts” by limiting participation to 7th and 8th graders (except Track) who are able to commit to a team for the entire season.  When necessitated by facility space limitations and to maintain appropriate coach/athlete ratios “cuts” are made on teams in extreme cases.

To enroll on a team all required forms and a current physical must be submitted to the school nurse before the first day of each sport season. Students should also attend the pre-season meetings, which will take place a few days before the start of each season.  Information about the date and time of these meeting will be announced in school; signs will be posted by the gymnasium and also listed on this web page.
