About Our School

Thank you for visiting the Woodland School website.  We are one of two Pre-K to third grade elementary schools in Weston, Massachusetts.  Located at the far end of Alphabet Lane, Woodland is idyllically nestled in the woods.  From the walls of glass in our school we are able to observe the changing seasons, vegetation, and wildlife that surround our school.  Our website offers you an opportunity to peruse our curriculum offerings, school procedures, and calendar updates.  But first, we wish to take the opportunity to share the importance we place on our school culture.

Our faculty and staff have a strong commitment to ensuring a healthy, positive, and industrious school culture.  In our school we have photographs of our entire staff posted with a quote from Roland Barth’s book Improving Schools from Within, “The longer I am in schools, the more I am convinced the relationship among the adults in a school has more to do with the success and achievement of the students than any other factor.”  It is our strong sense that it s the adults’ collaboration and collegial relationships that help optimize the school day for our children and their learning.  This commitment transcends to a true Professional Learning Community

The Woodland Kindness, Safety, Learning Triangle is the school logo that illustrates our school’s core values and is easily understood among even our youngest learners.  When the Open Circle Social Competency curriculum starts in kindergarten and continues throughout third grade, children are well invested in a school-wide vocabulary that facilitates healthy relationships and problem solving among children.  Woodland parents play an integral role as partners in this effort as well.  At numerous Parent Forums as well as parent-teacher conferences, parents can become familiar with our efforts of setting the stage for optimal learning.  Finally, the Weston Public Schools Parent Handbook’s first entry entitled Respectful Communication further supports the expectation for productive exchanges among our school community members.

In the end, our attention to our school’s ethos ensures that there are no distractions to our keen focus on children and their learning.  We strive to ensure every child is socially and emotionally available for learning.  It is our sincere belief that our positive school culture is in the best interest of each child’s academic, social, and emotional gains.
