Kindergarten Curriculum –
Language:  Children maintain eye contact while listening; listen to others with intent to understand; respond to a speaker by asking questions/contributing ideas; retell stories, information and ideas; make predictions; follow one, two and three step directions.
Literature:  Children are exposed to contemporary and traditional stories, non-fiction, folktales, nursery rhymes, songs and poetry.
Literacy:  Children engage in letter names and sounds activities, shared reading experiences that focus on concepts of print and interactive writing activities.
Writing:  Children participate in Writer’s and Illustrator’s Workshop.  During the year children begin by writing wordless books.  Children then begin to label their pictures.  As the year progresses children become more independent as writers.  Their writing includes temporary spelling and words found in print in the environment.
Math:  Classroom Routines (occur throughout the year) include:   Attendance Stick, Calendar, Question of the Day, Counting Jar.  Units of study include:  Numbers to 10, Quantities, 2-Dimensional Geometry, Patterns and Sorting, Moving on the Number Line, Making and Breaking Numbers, Stories in Numbers, Words and Pictures, 3-Dimensional Geometry, Measurement, Money, Addition and Subtraction, Large Numbers.
Motor:  Children participate in activities that develop ability to maintain stable posture; sense of personal space; mature grip of writing implements; efficient movement through school/classroom environment; and ability to cut on lines and curves.
Science:  Children engage in a year long study of our Case Campus.

Through hands on experiences children observe, record,compare, classify and predict about the world around them.  Our focus in kindergarten includes seasonal changes at the Vernal Pool, Land's Sake Farm and our Journey North Tulip Garden.  Children also participate in a design and engineering unit titled Balls & Ramps.

Social Studies:  Children participate in lessons in Social Competency including safety, sharing ideas and materials, taking turns, taking responsibility for jobs/actions, following routines independently, respect individual differences, working cooperatively with a partner and resolving conflict with negotiation.  Children also participate in a year long unit titled Me in My World.  In this unit, children will discover, explore, experience and interact with the world around them.  They will develop a sense of their individual selves and their place in the world through interactions and meaningful experiences with family, friends, school, and the larger community.  Students will use mapping as a tool to define themselves, their family, their place within the classroom and within the world.  Simultaneously, they will become active citizens within and beyond the classroom.
