As this is New England, we are apt to have a number of school days when the weather is inclement. On such days, the Superintendent must decide by 5:30 a.m. whether conditions will be safe for the children to come to school. Please know that schools are likely to be open if roads are open and passable. If a parent believes that weather conditions are too severe, he/she may keep his/her children home.
One of the following plans will be in effect for inclement weather:
a. If conditions are, in the Superintendent’s judgment, sufficiently severe for student travel, schools will be canceled. The "No School" announcement will be carried by television channels 4, 5 and 7, FOX 25, A message will be sent out through the WPS communication alert system and notice will be posted on this website. Staff will be notified by each school’s emergency telephone chain.
b. If conditions are almost safe, but the Highway Department needs extra time to clear the roads, the school day will be shortened. Under this alternative plan, the opening of school and all bus pickups will be delayed two hours. This simply means that the High School and Middle School will be open at 9:30 a.m. Country, Field, and Woodland Schools will open at 10:10 a.m., with the bused students being picked up two hours later than usual. The "Two-Hour Delay Opening" announcement will be announced the same way as cancellations. On such days, schools will be dismissed at their regular times. School lunch will be served at the regular times in each school, though we cannot guarantee the serving of previously advertised menus.
Custodians, cafeteria workers, administrators and administrative assistants will report to school as close to their regular hours as possible. Teachers, aides (including kindergarten teachers and aides), tutors, and paraprofessionals will report two hours later than usual. Students being driven to school should follow the two hour delay timing.
c. On rare occasions, the Superintendent may implement an early dismissal. This will be done in as timely a manner as possible. Notification will generally be communicated via myGrapevine, the communication system, and will be posted on the website.
Parents are reminded not to send their children to school early on Two-Hour-Delay days since the school yards and roadways may not be cleared, nor are staff available or responsible for the supervision of early arrivals.
A. No School - All classes and school activities canceled for the day. The day will be made up later in the year, as required by state regulations.
B. Two Hour Delay Opening - Morning bus pickups and the start of classes postponed two hours. However, meals, afternoon dismissals, and all other school activities will take place at their regularly scheduled times.
C. Early Dismissal – Implemented on rare occasions when weather conditions warrant.
