Weston Public Schools infuses a global perspective into the curriculum on a regular basis.
The district supports both student travel and faculty travel as part of the goal to provide an international perspective in education. Dr. Cheryl Maloney, Superintendent, provided a PowerPoint presentation on Global Education to the faculty of the Weston Public Schools during its Professional Development Day on March 23, 2009. Student Exchange Programs
![]() Weston students are provided an opportunity to travel abroad as part of their education. U.S. Department of State designated Secondary School Student Exchange Visitor Programs exist with Porto Alegre, Brazil and Rombas, France. In addition, a faculty and student exchange has been developed with Luoyang No. 1 Senior High School in China and the Kabarole District in Uganda. To learn more about these opportunities, contact Kim Young, Weston's Student Exchange Coordinator. Exchange students from partnership schools also attend Weston Public Schools.
Host Family Opportunities
Visiting exchange students attend classes full-time and finding out what it is like to be a “typical” American teenager. Each student’s experience is enhanced by living with four host families from the Weston community. The benefits of hosting an exchange student are innumerable. Exchange students can help with foreign language acquisition and the ability to see the world from a new perspective. Hosting also allows families to make lifelong friends with someone from a new culture. Students typically spend nine weeks with a host family and then move to their next family. The Global Education Council is the conduit for all aspects of the global education initiatives for the Weston Public Schools. It is a wonderful opportunity for any member of the community who has an interest in students’ exposure to other cultures. The school administration and the PTO are excited to see this committee come together. If you are interested, or would like any additional information, please contact the PTO President.
Teacher Travel Opportunities
Weston faculty are fortunate to have the unique opportunity for self-directed travel through the Schoen Family Weston Teacher Travelship. The purpose of “The Schoen Family Weston Teacher Travelship” is to provide an opportunity for teachers to travel anywhere outside the United States and have a unique foreign study experience during the summer break from professional obligations to the Weston Public Schools.
