2007-2008 Grant Funding

Title V       Innovative Practices

In FY ’08 the funds ($2,884) were used to purchase curriculum materials for differentiated instruction in mathematics at the elementary and secondary levels. At the elementary level they were used to purchase a new math program and manipulatives for grade 1 and at the high school they were used to purchase manipulatives for geometry. This program will no longer be funded by the federal government.

Title II      Teacher Quality

In FY ’08 these funds ($42,516) are being used to support professional development for faculty, including the Mentor Program and the Weston Professional Development Academy. In addition the funding was used to pay for the consultant and substitutes for teachers participating in the Anti-bias, Anti-racist course. Given the assessment results from teacher surveys about these programs, we anticipate continuing to use these funds in this way.

Title IV     Safe and Drug Free Schools

In FY ’08 these funds ($7,227) were used to augment our health program. For example, the funds were used for “Open Circle” curriculum training for faculty and staff at the intermediate level, a continuation of the program from our primary schools; and membership in Project Alliance/Middlesex Partnership for Youth, a county-wide consortium that provides technical assistance, staff development, and peer leadership programs. In conjunction with the funding, we will also hold an emergency planning meeting for all schools leadership, private and public, in the Town of Weston this August.

Title I

In FY’08 we received funds ($36,971) that were tied to supporting at risk students at the Field and Middle Schools. We hired a tutor at the Field School to work with students in mathematics. In the Middle School, we hired a .25 teacher to work with students on organization as well as support in mathematics. She also provided consultation to teachers working with at risk students and provided MCAS support to those students. We will be eligible for Title I funding in FY’09 as well, but will have to wait to find out what schools or grade levels qualify for the funding.
