Amnesty International club held its second

Benefit Concert for Invisible Children
Saturday, January 21, 2012 4 to 8 PM

The Lord's Resistance Army, a Ugandan rebel group, has kidnapped thousands of children over the past 25 years to force them into becoming child soldiers and child brides.

At Weston High School student music groups such as the Town Criers, the Pralines, and other student rock bands performed to raise money for Invisible Children.

The Invisible Children's Protection Plan supports the Early Warning Radio Network to warn rural communities of LRA attacks.  This radio network is necessary to protect vulnerable populations in rural Central African Republic, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo where the governments are not providing the means necessary to end the conflict.  With the United States sending 100 special operations troops in December and providing training and equipment to the Ugandan military, there is a real possibility for this conflict to end in the near future.

Thanks to all for making our

Mission/Goals:

Amnesty International, USA, a branch of Amnesty International, works every day, all over the nation to prevent abuses of human rights, both in this country and worldwide. The Weston High School chapter has worked on many of the campaigns for Amnesty, including the ongoing Campaign Against Torture, the fight against the death penalty, and recently has worked to educate about and raise money for Darfur, Sudan. We combine traditional letter-writing activism with online action, including working with Fast Action Stops Torture (FAST), and the Urgent Action Network (UA). To take action against human rights violations now, go to Amnesty USA Online Action Center at http://takeaction.amnestyusa.org/action/index.asp?ms=T1.
