Black History month was first recognized in the United States in 1926. Dr. Carter G. Woodson began to document the history of African Americans. In so doing he demonstrated how African Americans were an integral part of American culture, economics and society. The Civil Rights movement that began as an effort to win equality for African Americans became the template for diversity and tolerance for all.
Weston High School’s theme for this year's Black History Month is 'Embracing Diversity through Music and the Spoken Word.'
On February 24, a school-wide assembly presented High School students and invited guests performing a variety of musical styles and sharing their vision of diversity and acceptance through the spoken word.
